Well, I think she LIKES it!

Lucy is doing just great with the baby cereal!Photobucket

It is the cutest thing to watch her eat her "dinner!" I normally warm the breast milk as I make dinner. Then when Denny gets home, around 6:00, I mix the cereal and breast milk and he feeds her while I finish dinner. Lucy normally plays in her exersaucer or sits in her Boppy with us while we eat dinner! She is really starting to get the hang of this "eating" thing!

As the spoon gets close she leans forward...
Photobucket

…then she opens her mouth to get as much in as possible…Photobucket

…finally she closes her lips on the spoon sucking the cereal in!Photobucket

She is starting to get the hang of it and doesn't spit as much out as before! :)Photobucket

***I've already come to realize that cloth bibs are way too much work when a baby is learning to eat! They are COVERED in cereal after each feeding. So, I bought Lucy a few new bibs today at Target that just wipe clean. We plan to try one out tonight! :)

Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, It's Off to The Pool We Go!

This past weekend was really HOT! So on Sunday we decided to take Lucy to the New Albany Pool!

At first Lucy wasn't so sure about it…
Photobucket
"Please don't put my toes in that cold water! "

She enjoyed being held and walked around the pool.

With booper in mouth, she held on tight to Daddy's shirt!

After awhile she warmed up to the pool and enjoyed standing in the zero-entry baby pool!

Aunt Megan joined us for the fun!

Mommy and Daddy can't wait to take you to the pool again soon!Photobucket

***Note to self: Do not wear a bikini when you are breastfeeding.
Wow! Va…va…voom!

Guess What…Mommy and Daddy Gave Me Baby Food!

Lucy has been sitting in her Boppy with us at the dinner table for awhile now. Recently she has been showing interest in our food and showing signs that she is ready to try solids. So we decided to give it a shot and see how it goes.

We decided to start with organic rice cereal. Lucy sat in her Boppy seat with the little tray on and watched us prepare her cereal. She was squealing in delight, as if she knew what we were doing! HA! We mixed a tiny bit of rice cereal with an ounce of breastmilk. The consistency was very running, almost still a liquid.

The first bite she spit right out! And then gave us this look!
Photobucket

Then she tried again, spit most of it out, and flashed us the biggest smile! I think she was proud of herself.
Photobucket

By the last few bites she was literally leaning forward to get her mouth to the spoon! It was so cute! We managed to feed this happy baby almost the whole small serving we had prepared. I would say half went on her bib and half of it in her mouth! :) We plan to take the introduction to foods slowly. We will give Lucy cereal once a day, in the evening, for a few weeks to get her use to solids before moving to vegetables and then finally fruits!
Photobucket

Our plan is:
1. Rice cereal
2. Oatmeal cereal
3. Orange veggies
4. Green veggies
5. Fruits

*I do have to admit it is so hard for me to believe our baby is growing up so fast :(

22 Weeks Old!

Lucy is 5 and 1/2 months old and changing EVERY single day! It seems like every time I turn around she is trying something new!
Photobucket

This week she was an adventurous little thing! Her adventures included:
-rolling from tummy to back and then back to her tummy
-learning to love her booper like she's been using it for months (yay for this!!!!)
-picking up her booper and putting it right into her mouth all on her own :)
-napping not in Mommy's arms during the day
-sitting up on her own a few times each day! (This has to be the cutest trick of them all!)
-sleeping in her crib for the first chunk of the night (usually about 8:30pm - 12:30am)
-falling asleep in the crib on her own! (Well, with the help of her booper, swaddle blanket, white noise on the ipod, and a fan! - haha! But we're thrilled!)
-watching Mommy run like a wild woman when it started to really RAIN hard on a walk! We were about a half mile from the car and we got soaked. Lucy thought it was pretty funny!
-being a night owl Saturday night when we went to a "Going Away Party" for Brett and Kim! Lucy slept peacefully in my moby wrap while we said goodbye :(
-standing up at every chance she gets! Does this mean she is going to be an earlier walker?!?!

…and how about this face! HAHAHAH!

A Big Day!

Today is a big day for Miss Lucy!

She sat up on her own (for a minute or so)!

And she rolled over from her tummy to back and then rolled back over to her tummy! I will try to capture her new skills with the camera soon!

We bought her a new padded play mat from Amazon earlier this week. And I think she loves it because she is so active and happy whenever we play on it!

Here's a picture of it from Amazon's website:

Boop Camp…..

I mean Boot Camp! HAH!

Lucy is currently going through boot camp with her boopers!!! This new effort comes from a very tired Mom who has a baby that wants to nurse ALL NIGHT LONG! Lucy never really took to a pacifier as a newborn and we didn't push it. But the time has come that a booper would do wonders to soothe her in the middle of the night. She was sleeping great for a few months and suddenly nights have changed. It is about 2 weeks of nursing her 3-6 times (yes, you read that correctly there were nights she would want to nurse every 2 hours throughout the entire night as a 5 month old) that lead me to a new desire for a pacifier!

It is normal for a breastfed baby to wake throughout the entire first year of life for a feeding or two. Breast milk is more efficiently digested than formula therefore a breastfeed baby will not sleep all night without a feeding. But it certainly is not necessary to wake 6 times!!! She was getting in the habit of spending some QT with her Mom all night long! :)

Thursday we were very successful! She took 3 naps with a booper, two of which she feel asleep on her own, sucking away! She seems to show a preference to the Nuk pacifiers so I'm going with those. Whatever floats her boat…right? :)

Last night was a bit rough. But I was prepared for this. She took at 7:30 bath, nursed to sleep at 8:00, and then sucked away on the pacifier until 12:30! SUCCESS! Then I feed her at 12:30 and she woke at 2:00 ready to nurse again. So I rocked her to sleep with the pacifier and it worked! But 20 minutes later she lost the pacifier and decided it was time to nurse! :) So I soothed her with the pacifier again and this continued until 3:30 when I nursed her again. She then slept on her own until 6:30, with some help finding her booper, when I nursed her for another hour of sleep! She woke up at 7:30 for the day with the brightest smile around!

Time for Day #2 of Boop Training! TGIF to everyone!

4:30 - stroller ride and play time
5:45 - Daddy's home!

Lucy continues to nurse but things have changed some. During the day she is easily distracted and wants to see everything that is going on around her so she does not eat as well. She now makes up for the missed feedings at night. She is a wonderful nurser at night and gets her fill before another active day!

We love you LUCY!
